Janet Eickelman was born in Pueblo, Colorado in 1962. Her parents were avid southwest explorers and the many car trips left their mark. She attended Colorado State University and graduated in 1984 with a B.F.A. in interior design. Moving to Breckenridge, Colorado after graduation, the mountain environment played a large role in her livelihood and subject matter. She worked as a wall finish artist, aging walls, painting murals, installing hand printed papers until the need for natural materials steered her in a different direction. Learning to apply natural plasters exposed her to textures and dimension. Owning a home accessories store, during this time, allowed her to explore re-displaying a room quickly and seasonally. Her market consists mainly of second homeowners, with homes changing hands often. The need to create personal touches that could go with the homeowner became apparent and she began Nomadic Walls. The ability to change the feel of a room and create very personal images is her focus presently. |
